The Beginner's Guide to Denim on Denim

The double-denim trend (or as I remember it being called the Canadian Tuxedo) is being pushed by countless retailers. Miranda Kerr can’t seem to get enough of the trend, and neither can I. I saw this trend and really wanted to give it a try, but was worried the double denim would go awry. But with these simple tips, I found that it's really not that intimidating.

1. DO PLAY WITH COLOR
Before you dive into wearing the same shade of blue, start out by pairing different shades of denim. Darker shades create a magical slimming effect. So if you want to show off your assets, wear the lighter shades of denim to draw attention to that body part and vice versa.

2. DON'T WEAR DENIM ACCESSORIES
Don't over do it and stop after you put on that top and bottom.  If you want to add an accessory, make sure it is not a denim material.

3. DON'T HESITATE TO BORROW FROM THE BOYS
Sometimes the right denim just isn't in your section of the department store. I found this denim top in the men's department of UNIQLO. I just bought the smallest size they had and voila! No one will ever know, I promise.

4. FEAR NO MORE
Wearing the same wash on both the top and bottom can be a challenge, but when it's done right it can be oh so cute! I found this matching denim set from Samantha Pleet and the same wash works!
