Pacsafe recently launched a new anti-theft bag called the Pacsafe W Backpack, and I was genuinely thrilled to have the opportunity to try out this exciting new design. I’ve been a long-time customer of Pacsafe bags ever since I first discovered them about seven years ago at a local mom-and-pop shop located in San Diego.

What initially drew me to Pacsafe was their unique and innovative anti-theft features, which provide an extra layer of security for travelers. Additionally, I was impressed by their feminine designs that combine practicality with aesthetics.

For many years, I have been using their Citysafe CX Backpacks, and the W Backpack pretty much combines everything I have ever wanted in the other bags I have used.

Built-in security and anti-theft protections.

What makes the Pacsafe Backpacks especially popular among travelers are the anti-theft features they offer. These thoughtful security elements provide an added layer of protection, ensuring that belongings remain safe and secure while on the go. Secured Zip Tab

The zip tabs are thoughtfully designed with the intention that the zippers cannot be easily opened by a skilled pickpocket. It’s a remarkably simple design that achieves an effective outcome in safeguarding your belongings.

TurnNLock Security Hook

This is a convenient feature located on the straps, designed specifically so that you can securely fasten your bag to a nearby fixture. It’s particularly useful when you are sitting in a public space and can’t keep a constant eye on your bag. For example, when I’m at an outdoor cafe, I simply wrap the strap around a sturdy leg of the table to ensure my belongings remain safe and within reach.

I would have never known about this built-in feature if I hadn’t taken the time to thoroughly read the specifications, as it’s not noticeable at all. The bag is equipped with a built-in stainless steel wire mesh that adds an extra level of safety and security, making the bag cut resistant.

RFIDsafe Blocking Pocket

There is an RFIDsafe pocket located inside the bag that is lined with special material designed to block radio frequency identification (RFID) signals. This prevents unauthorized scanning of personal information stored on contactless credit cards, passports, or other RFID-enabled items.

I truly appreciate all the various anti-theft features, and that is what initially drew me to Pacsafe bags in the first place. However, there are additional features that make the bag even more functional for travelers like myself.

Exterior Side Pockets

I never understood how convenient an exterior pocket was until I started using a bag equipped with one. I always make sure to carry a bottle of water with me, and being able to easily slide it into an exterior pocket is significantly more convenient than having to constantly take it in and out of a zippered bag every time I need a sip. This simple yet effective design feature offers quick and convenient access to essential items while on the go.

Separate Laptop Sleeve Compartment (Fits 13” MacBook Pro)

The Citysafe CX 17L bag features a laptop sleeve compartment; however, I personally prefer the one in the W bag because it is situated in a separate zippered compartment, whereas the laptop sleeve in the other bag was not designed that way. I prefer this new design detail because I like having my laptop kept separate from the rest of my belongings.

Luggage Slip

Having a luggage slip on my bag during my travels is an absolute must for me. I simply don’t like to have to carry around any extra weight, especially when I have been traveling for long hours and am already feeling fatigued. Therefore, if a bag doesn’t come equipped with a convenient luggage slip, I will definitely not consider using it for my journeys.

Multiple Organizational Compartments Inside

Having a bag that has multiple compartments certainly makes it easier to organize my belongings effectively. It is a design element that is much needed in a bag if I aim to avoid the hassle and frustration of shuffling through my bag in search of a particular item.

Adjustable & Padded Straps

Another notable feature that is especially appreciated, particularly if I have to lug a bag for long hours, is a bag equipped with padded straps. The cushioning provided by the padding helps distribute the weight of the bag more evenly across my shoulders, which prevents the strap from digging into my skin.

Top Handle

While the shoulder straps and luggage sleeve are the primary methods to carry this bag, having a top handle has some handy advantages. One example is that it allows me to easily hang the backpack on a hook or peg, keeping it off the floor. The handle also makes it easier to lift the backpack into overhead compartments on planes or trains.

Is 10L a good size?

I get asked this question quite frequently regarding the various bags available from the Pacsafe Citysafe CX collection, and it truly depends on each individual person’s specific lifestyle, preferences, and unique needs. This bag has a capacity of 10 liters, and I think it’s an excellent size for travel as well as for spending a day out exploring new places. Its dimensions make it convenient for carrying essentials without being too bulky, allowing for comfort during various activities.

Final Thoughts

After using the Citysafe CX 17L Backpack for several years, I have found myself reaching for the W Backpack more often now. The bag is a slightly smaller size, which is much better for me when I do not have to carry a ton of items. I also appreciate that the W Backpack features a more boxy structure, which aligns with my personal style preference. Currently, the W Backpack comes in three different colors, but I am hopeful that they will soon expand their offerings to include more color options for greater variety.
