June is rainy season in Japan, but we got lucky and didn’t have to deal with the rain too much. There were many cloudy days and we experienced some light rain. We traveled around Japan and visited Nagoya, Osaka, and the Tokyo area between May 31st through June 9th.

On most days, the mornings were in the mid 60s and during the day the highs were in the high eighties. Here is what we ended up wearing during our trip. Read to the end and find out what we both packed but left untouched.

CRYSTAL’S OUTFITS

Nagoya Outfit:
Crystal's been obsessed with Anthropologie lately, especially their Maeve line. She loves the way the fabric feels – it’s light and has the perfect amount of stretch. Plus, the clothes fit her perfectly, especially with her pear-shaped figure.

When we were in Nagoya, we did a bit of exploring and visited the famous Nagoya castle. Crystal wore Anthropologie’s Colette Jeans which were super comfy and perfect for days we did a lot of walking. When it started drizzling midday, so she threw on her cropped rain coat from Aritzia. The army green color is gorgeous and the hoodie was much needed when she didn’t have her umbrella. Extra bonus that it had a hidden zippered pocket inside.

A shirt that is a staple piece in Crystal’s closet is Uniqlo’s Heattech tops. These tops are not only super affordable, but they are more than just your basic top. The fabric is revolutionary and helps regulate your body temperature. I have many of their tops in my closet as well.

Crystal wore her favorite Chuck Taylor All Star Converse for the entire duration of the trip. They are not only comfy but matches all of her outfits, so this definitely helps to minimize her packing.

Osaka Outfit 1:
In Osaka, Crystal wore the Colette Contrast-Stitch Maeve Pants from Anthropologie’s Maeve line. The white stitching on the Colette pants added such a fun detail to the pants. She paired the pants with a scooped-neck ribbed tee (also from the Maeve line) that hugged her body in all the right places.

Crystal likes to wear Uniqlo’s Airism tank top under white shirts to conceal the bra she’s wearing underneath. On a few occasions when it rained unexpectedly, Crystal quickly threw on her cropped raincoat from Aritzia. This coat came in quite handy, as it was lightweight enough to easily slip into her tote bag when she wasn’t wearing it.

Osaka Outfit 2:
Lately, Crystal has been into simple black dresses. She wore Amazon’s Long Sleeveless Black Dress and on top Amazon’s Denim Crop Top. These were both from Amazon’s Amazon Essential Line and were surprisingly nice quality for the price point. Crystal purchased these pieces a little while ago, so if they are no longer available, Quince and Everlane sells similar black dresses and made with better quality material.

CANDY’S OUTFITS

Osaka Outfit:
One of my go-to jeans right now is my high waisted wide leg denim from J Crew. The fabric is made with a soft denim material that has a hint of elastane for extra comfort. As much as I love the look of 100% cotton jeans, I need a little bit of stretchy material in my denim.

I packed a variety of tops, but ultimately, I ended up buying a shoulder padded top from Zara while I was in Osaka. I also wore my H&M Cotton T-shirt, which I had originally planned to wear as pajamas.

For most days, I wore my Adidas Samba Sneakers. They are incredibly comfortable, almost like wearing slippers to me. They never hurt my feet after hours of walking through various city streets and exploring different attractions.

Nagoya Outfit:
One of the jeans I’ve had in my closet for several years now is from Zara called the Marine Straight Leg Pants. I have these pants in multiple colors and for this trip I packed the white pair. On top, I wore a linen blend striped button down shirt from H&M.

I wanted my linen shirt to be a bit oversized so I purchased a medium instead of my usual small. For the cooler mornings, and when it was raining, I wore my trench coat from Anine Bing. I love Anine Bing, but this coat’s belt stitching fell apart just after a few wears, so I would recommend buying a similiar trench coat from another brand like Mango.

TRAVEL DAY OUTFITS

To save space in our suitcases, we both wear the same outfit for our arrival and departure flights. I typically opt for something soft and warm, like Quince's cashmere pants and Easy Standard’s cotton blend t-shirt. Since the cabin temperature is typically chilly, I wore Violette FR’s sweatshirt hoodie to layer over my T-shirt.

Crystal's trusted travel leggings are from Athleta. She loves the wide comfy waistband as it doesn't dig into the waistline. Their leggings also feature convenient side pockets. Leggings are always a good choice for travel because they never touch the floor, which is especially important in those cramped and sometimes dirty airplane bathrooms.

On top, Crystal wore Uniqlo’s Heattech Scoopneck Top and Alo’s Crew Neck Pullover. For an additional layer of warmth for the cool temperatures inside the aircraft, Crystal threw on & Other Stories’ Boxy Denim Jacket. This jacket isn’t a stiff denim, but a soft and comfortable denim material. At first, Crystal was concerned it might be too boxy and baggy, but it fit perfectly over her sweatshirt.

For shoes, Crystal wore Beckett Simonon’s Morgen Trainers and I wore my Adidas Sambas.

TRAVEL LUGGAGE

We both traveled with Quince's Carryon Suitcases and were pretty excited when they launched new styles and colors. Crystal’s suitcase is slightly different than mine because her case has a large front zippered pocket. You can use this pocket to store items you want easy access to, but we think it’s the perfect spot for your laptop.

Lo & Sons backpacks are our travel companions in addition to our carry-on suitcases. Crystal has been traveling with the Rowledge Backpack for a few years now and I recently started traveling with the Westholme Backpack. They are both amazing travel backpacks with slightly different features. If you make a Lo & Sons purchase, don’t forget to apply our code TRAVELPOCKETS to save 10% at checkout.

BAGS & PURSES

For our daytime bags, Crystal carried her Nisolo Tote Bag and I used my Lo & Sons Aoyama Bag. Both bags are made of soft leather material and feature beautiful colors that are perfect for spring and summer. Nisolo no longer sells this particular tote bag, but Quince has a variety of tote bags that are of similar quality and style.

Of course, we never go anywhere without our Bandolier straps. This stylish phone case doubles as a purse and wallet. Bandolier has a variety of styles and convenient tech accessories that give you the freedom of being hands-free.

JEWELRY

We both have similar styles when it comes to jewelry. Lately, we've been gravitating towards Quince for our accessory fix. Another brand we both are drawn to is Gorjana. Not only is their price point affordable, but their collection of necklaces is absolutely stunning.

Crystal is a huge fan of Kristin Cavallari and adores her jewelry line called Uncommon James. Her favorite necklace right now that she wears almost daily is the Enamel Heart Necklace.

A recent favorite of Crystal’s is a brand called J&Co. Among their collection, her current top choice is their Ear Threader style, adding a modern and sophisticated flair to her look.

We both like to travel with an AirPod necklace which is super handy because it’s very easy to lose those AirPods especially when you are traveling. Crystal has actually lost two AirPod’s from rushing through the airport. Of course, those were the times she didn’t have an AirPod necklace. There are so many AirPod necklace options out there, but we like to shop on Etsy or Amazon for them.

What Didn’t We Wear?

In the end, we both ended up not wearing the shorts, tank tops, and sandals that we had packed for Japan. We both assumed it was going to be much more hot and humid than we experienced, but wearing jeans and a short sleeve T-shirt was perfectly fine for most days throughout our trip. Surprisingly, the weather turned out to be quite comfortable, which allowed us to enjoy our activities without feeling overheated.
