San Diego is known for beautiful weather and it’s one of the many things I miss about living there. I booked a stay at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa, which is located right on the water facing San Diego Bay.
I always check the weather app before I start packing and the forecast was mild temperatures with low humidity. The highs were in the 80s and the lows were in the mid-60s, which is pretty much perfect weather to me.
Given the warm and comfortable climate here is what I ended up wearing during my trip from July 12-15.
Tops
I wanted to pack tops that were easy to mix and match with my bottom pieces, so I packed a few options.
My go-to top is Quince’s washable silk tank. I wore this top in Paris and also on my recent trip to Japan. It’s perfect for wearing solo or layering up. I usually avoid silk because it typically requires dry cleaning and is expensive, but Quince makes their silk tops easy to care for and super affordable.
I recently started buying a lot of my basic tops and pants from a brand called Aritzia. I love walking into their store and finding plenty of staples in earthy tones. I wore a black square-neck tank top with an elastic strap from Aritzia, which goes great with a pair of high-waisted bottoms. It’s also a great top to wear underneath a white button-down shirt.
Outerwear
While the daytime temperatures are warm, mornings and evenings are cooler, so it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket, sweater, or a long-sleeved shirt. I packed my Baby Alpaca-Wool Cropped Cardigan which ended up being perfect for my morning walks with my pups and for the cooler evenings.
This cardigan from Quince has a cozy light feel and offers a flattering cropped design. I love the rib pattern and minimal button front, which makes it easy to style with a variety of outfits. Alpaca wool is resistant to pilling and it doesn’t have that scratchiness like some of the other wools.
Bottoms
Last year I discovered a French brand called Sezane on Instagram and absolutely love their quality and effortless Parisian styles. I wore the Rome Shorts which come in a variety of materials and patterns. I chose a material that was on the thicker side since I wanted to be able to wear it in the Fall.
I also wore my Alanya pants from Aritza, which are a comfy pair of white wide-leg pants. The elastic back waist gives me some wiggle room and the crepe fabric (a type of crinkle-textured fabric) has a gorgeous effortless drape.
They were a little see-through, which is not uncommon for white pants, so underneath I wore my thighsociety shorts. These shorts are my go-to when I wear white pants, skirts, or dresses.
Swimwear
I wanted to take the pups to the beach, so I packed a bikini just in case I wanted to get in the water too. I like wearing bandeau bikini tops because they can easily be styled with my regular clothes.
Believe it or not, I have been wearing the same bikini from Athleta for more than five years now. I bought it when we went to Costa Rica and just haven’t found a print that I love more than this one.
Footwear
Comfy shoes are a must for me, so wearing heels is pretty much out of the question. Since we had plans to hit the beach, I wore my leather-toe ring sandal from beek which can easily be slipped on and off.
I also wore my Nisolo go-to flatform sandals a couple of times but mostly wore my Beek sandals. Both sandals are comfy and can easily be styled with a variety of outfits.
Accessories
Hat
Since I drove to my destination, I didn’t have to hold back on the accessories I wanted to take with me. I brought my wide-brim straw hat, which definitely came in handy when the sun was beaming down on us.
There were times during the day when it got a little breezy, so I had to remove my hat. Luckily, I had my TOPTOTE hat clip with me. This handy accessory clips onto my bag and gives me the freedom to stay hands-free when I’m not wearing my hat.
Bag
I used my Nisolo Lori Tote Bag which is a great versatile everyday bag. It’s large enough to fit my cardigan, dog accessories, and other miscellaneous items. The minimalist design and soft leather complement any outfit you put together.
Jewelry
I’m not into chunky jewelry and like to layer my pieces. Recently my go-to necklaces are from Gorjana and I layered the Griffin Dog Tag Charm and Venice Mini necklace. I prefer to shop in-store and try on the different pieces, but I’ve also purchased from Amazon as well.
I wear rings from different brands like Loren Stewart and Aurate, but the rings I wear most are the simple 14k gold-filled dainty, and stackable rings that I purchased from Etsy. I’ve been wearing them since 2017 and I still can’t believe they are gold-filled for only $8.00. It’s such a great deal.
What My Fur Babies Wore
If you’re curious what Zooey and Captain strutted around in, they wore collars and leashes from Saint Rue. Saint Rue is our go-to brand when it comes to chic dog accessories. Not only do they focus on functionality, but their bold-eye-catching designs have a very sophisticated aesthetic.
One afternoon we drove over the bridge to Balboa Park and it was significantly warmer, so the dogs had to wear their boots to protect their paws. They got tons of attention and everyone kept saying it looked like they were wearing Crocs.
Remember that weather can vary, so it’s a good idea to check a reliable weather forecast closer to your travel date for the most accurate information. I hope you enjoy your time (and outfits) on Coronado Island as much as we did.
