I love staying at Kimpton hotels because they are so beautifully decorated and the staff is always very professional and friendly. The biggest bonus with Kimpton hotels is that they charge NO PET FEE. That is such a relief; especially when some hotels charge you up to $100 per night for pets which is pretty ridiculous. I was passing through Phoenix and saw that Kimpton had a hotel downtown, so it was the perfect place for me and Kuma to stay for the night at Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix.
FIRST IMPRESSION
Since the hotel is located in downtown Phoenix, I was a little nervous about driving in a big city, but downtown Phoenix was actually smaller than I thought and there was no traffic at all. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and the streets were practically empty. The parking garage was located right next to the hotel, but I was a little confused on whether or not that was the parking garage for the hotel because the sign said “Cityscape”. Before I drove into the garage, I called the front desk to make sure it was the right garage and he confirmed it was. He recommended I park on the 2nd level near the elevators.
Once I parked and got into the elevators, I was a little confused as to where the hotel was because I ended up outside. Eventually, I figured out that the hotel was around the corner, but it was a bit of a hassle trying to find it while I had my luggage in tow with my dog.
The hotel’s lobby was gorgeous, as expected. It had a mid-century modern kind of vibe with a cool lounge area to the left and the reception area to the right. When I reached the receptionist, he was very friendly and asked if I needed anything for my dog like a dog bed or dog bowls. I asked for a dog bed and they sent someone up to the room to set it up for me. Kuma and I felt extra special.
LOCATION
The hotel is located right in the heart of downtown at CityScape, which is downtown Phoenix’s shopping, dining and entertainment hub. There were many restaurants, bars and entertainment within walking distance. There was still a lot of construction going as they were renovating the area, but I could tell it was still a nice area. Once they finish all the construction, I’m sure the place will be booming.
ROOM
I always ask for a room on the highest floor they can give me and I got just that. I stayed on the 10th floor in Room 1010 around the corner from the elevators. I booked a 2 Queen Deluxe Room and it was very spacious at 480 square feet. I loved the cute wall art above the beds and the cool looking lamp between the beds, but I wish they would have added more design elements to the room. It felt a little flat when comparing to other Kimpton hotels I’ve stayed at in London and Amsterdam.
The 2 queen beds were draped in Italian Frette linens, down duvets and pillows and it was ever so comfortable. I definitely got a good night’s rest. There was a large window overlooking the city, but I couldn’t get a clear view because there was some sort of screen over it. Below the window was a nice lounge area with a long couch. Next to that was a round table and chair that could be used for dining or a working desk.
There is a sleek dresser in front of the beds with a large flat-screen TV and inside dresser on the left side was a mini fridge. This fridge is usually used as a mini bar, but since these are COVID times, they took all the items out, so the fridge was clear. I much prefer having the fridge to store my drinks and snacks rather than have all those unnecessary items in the fridge that I will never buy.
The closet had some hangers along with a two bathrobes, digital safe, iron, ironing board, umbrella and a yoga mat. Kimpton hotels are known to have yoga mats in all of their rooms.
The bathroom was spacious as well and very modern looking. There was plenty of space on the sink counter and a cool round mirror with a magnifying mirror to the side. The shower and tub was pretty standard. There were three sets of towels neatly laid underneath the sink along with a hair dryer. The basic toiletries were provided like lotion and soap, but the shampoo, conditioner and body wash were in dispensers in the showers.
If you happened to forget something or need something loaned, Kimpton has a huge list of items they will more than happily provide for you like cell phone chargers, lip balm, hair bands, humidifier, sewing kit, toothbrush, toothpaste and more.
AMENITIES
Kimpton Hotel Palomar Phoenix is full of amenities. Their rooftop bar with a pool is absolutely amazing. You get a scenic view of the city and I was able to bring Kuma with me to the bar side where there are lots of chairs and couches to lounge in.
They also have a restaurant on the first floor, an onsite fitness center, hosted evening wine hour, in-room spa services and more.
PET-FRIENDLINESS
Kimpton mind as well call themselves the most pet-friendly hotel because they go above and beyond for your fur babies. First of all, pets get to stay for FREE. Second, they provide pet items for you like dog beds and food bowls. Third, you can bring any pet at any size you want whether it be a dog, cat, bird, lizard, etc. Plus, you can bring your dog with you to the rooftop bar and to the nightly wine reception.
This hotel did not have a dedicated pet relief area, but there was a grassy area right around the corner.
EXTRA COSTS
Keep in mind that there will be extra costs at this hotel. If you have a car, self-parking in the garage is $28 per night. There is also a $25 daily guest amenities fee that includes a $10 daily food and beverage credit to be used at their restaurant or rooftop bar, upgraded WiFi speed, 15% off spa and salon services, complimentary access to the fitness club, unlimited local and long distance phone calls and complimentary printing, faxing and copying.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Even though I only stayed here for one night, I had such a lovely time here. The hotel was wonderful and I especially loved that I got to explore the hotel with Kuma more than usual like checking out the rooftop bar. It’s always fun taking her to new places with me and she loves the attention she gets from humans.
