We were on a cross-country road trip from California to Florida with Crystal’s dog, Kuma, and Tombstone, Arizona was our first stop on the road. We wanted to spend the day in this famous western town and booked the most adorable pet-friendly cabin.

FIRST IMPRESSION

We arrived shortly after sunset so it was pretty dark when we drove into the parking lot. Our parking spot was located directly in front of our cabin and the property was clean and newly constructed.

Tombstone Miners Cabins is all operated online (similar to an Airbnb), so there is no front desk check-in counter. We received emails and a text message prior to our stay, which gave us peace of mind that our reservation was booked and ready.

The code to get access to our room was provided days before our stay and parking instructions were clear and easy to understand. There are a total of six cabins and one parking spot is assigned per cabin. Luckily, we only needed one parking spot.

THE CABIN

Initially, when we looked online to book a room, all of the pet-friendly rooms were already reserved. Crystal decided to email guest services to see if there was any chance that a pet-friendly room was vacant and we received a response immediately that they had one available.

We were thrilled because this was the best pet-friendly accommodation within walking distance of the main attractions in Tombstone. There were some other pet-friendly accommodations available, but the reviews were not that great and Miners Cabins definitely had the best reviews. Our only other options (with good reviews) were about a 30-minute drive from town in Sierra Vista.

Bedroom

We stayed in the two double bed cabin, which can accommodate up to four people. When we walked into the room, we instantly fell in love with the mining-themed decor. The space was charming and everything looked brand new. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the decor and there was plenty of space for the two of us (plus Kuma).

The room was equipped with a small refrigerator, which was one of the best hotel fridges we’ve encountered. The fridge had a separate freezer, which is unusual because most hotel fridges have the two combined. This gave us plenty of room to store our ice packs, drinks, food, and more.

There was also a microwave (which we used to heat up some leftover pizza), a coffee maker, Satellite TV, WiFi (strong signal), and an extra blanket and pillow. The A/C and heat unit worked great and there were plenty of outlets to charge our electronic devices.

The desk had a brand new deck of cards, a keychain, and Tombstone’s local paper. We weren’t sure if the cards and keychain were complimentary to take home, but assumed that they were.

Bathroom

The bathroom had historical furnishings with a pull chain toilet and the sink was made from an actual wine barrel. There was a built-in shelf next to the sink that was large enough to hold both our toiletries.

The amenities included shampoo, conditioner, soap, and makeup remover wipes. There was a hanging basket with extra toilet paper and a cute dresser to store any miscellaneous items.

Two sets of bath towels were provided for our two-night stay, which was plenty. The shower pressure and heat were great and the sliding barn door was easy to open and close. A blow dryer was also hanging right next to the sink.

We were really impressed with all the little details that went into this bathroom. The wallpaper had elements of the Tombstone newspaper clippings and the rustic lanterns hanging above the sink were spot-on. There were also several fun signs hanging throughout the bathroom.

PRIVATE DECK

The private deck was one of our favorite features of the room. It overlooks the gorgeous desert landscape, which was so beautiful during sunrise and sunset.

Our stay was in early January and we got hit with some unusually cold weather, so we didn’t stay out on the deck long enough to relax and unwind. However, we imagine if it were warmer, it would have been great to sit down and enjoy a glass of wine or two.

PET-FRIENDLINESS

A max of two pets per room is permitted, but you have to book a pet-friendly room, which is usually Cabins 5 and 6. If the rooms are not available online, we recommend contacting them directly to see if there’s any availability.

Dog beds or bowls are not provided, so make sure to bring all your pet necessities. There wasn’t a dedicated pet-relief area, so you’ll have to walk a little bit up the parking lot to find a spot for your dog to relieve itself.

LOCATION

This is a fantastic location as it’s located on historic Allen street, which is where all the historic attractions are. We were steps away from the famous Birdcage Theater and the O.K. Corral. We were in the heart of it all, but also just far enough away to have a restful night's sleep.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Sometimes small towns don't have the best pet-friendly options for lodging, but that wasn’t the case with Tombstone Miners Cabins. We were in a prime location and all the accents in the cabin had the spirit of the old west while keeping things modern and functional.

There were several reviews online where guests complained about the walls being super thin, but they recently completed their soundproof construction so you no longer have to worry about hearing your neighbors. We didn’t hear a peep from the people staying in the cabins next to us.
