We were making an overnight stop in Kansas City, Missouri, on our cross-country road trip and stayed at Hotel Indigo Kansas City - The Crossroads. We’re already huge fans of Hotel Indigo for being a trendy boutique pet-friendly hotel. We stayed at Hotel Indigo in downtown Denver and absolutely loved our stay, so we were excited to stay at another Hotel Indigo in Kansas City.
FIRST IMPRESSION
We pulled up to the front of the hotel and parked there while we checked in at the front desk. The reception staff was very friendly and explained all the amenities of the hotel.
They were also able to check if there was street parking nearby with their webcam, which was very convenient since downtown areas tend to be tricky places to find parking. We decided to go with valet parking so that our car would be in a garage.
IHG WAY OF CLEAN
Like our last IHG hotel we stayed at in Denver, IHG goes above and beyond to keep their hotel sanitized and their guests and employees as safe as possible.
Before you enter the building, there are signs informing guests that face masks are required and social distancing must be practiced.
Right when you enter the hotel, there is a sanitizing station and when you approach the check-in desk, plexiglass is put up in front of each desk and the staff was all wearing a mask.
At the elevators, there are signs reinstating the social distancing guidelines and there are also stickers inside the elevator indicating where you should stand to properly social distance.
Inside the room, there was a card from IHG reassuring their guests that IHG hotels are doing everything they can to keep everyone safe while traveling. Their number one priority is the guest and employee’s health, safety, and well-being.
We also received a sanitary kit with a travel-size sanitizer, a 3-ply mask, and individual wet wipes. We use everything in the sanitary kit regularly, so we were really happy to receive these extra goodies.
LOCATION
Hotel Indigo Kansas City - The Crossroads is located in the art district and housed in a historical building where it once used to be KC Costume Company.
Usually, the area celebrates the local artists on First Fridays, but since there is a global pandemic going on, the events are canceled for now.
We didn’t have much time to explore the area, but we had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant next door called The Rockhill Grille. We ordered the roasted chicken and ribeye steak which were both fantastic dishes. They served very generous portions, so we had leftovers for the next day.
THE ROOM
Our room was absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in room 221 and had a street view of Grand Boulevard. There was some construction going on at the time of our visit, so we didn’t have much of a view, but we loved all the natural light coming into the room from the large windows.
We admired the decor of the room with the blue hues and modern art. We were especially obsessed with the curtain’s pattern which had a tie-dye effect on it. The exposed brick wall was also really cool and of course, the barn doors to the bathroom (and closet) are always one of our favorite features in a hotel room.
The accent chair and working desk were in a perfect spot right next to the large windows, so you can read a book or work on your laptop while looking out at the views or simply enjoy the natural light.
The two queen beds were very comfortable and we both had a good night’s rest. There was some noise at night with cars driving by, but it calmed down after 10 pm.
The bathroom was pretty spacious with a nice stand-up shower. There is a rainfall showerhead and an adjustable, removable shower head, so you can choose between your preferred way of showering. We aren’t huge fans of the rainfall showerhead, so we were happy to see that there was another option with the removable one.
The sink countertop had a nice, white marble design with moderate counter space. The mirror was large, but we do wish that there was more lighting in the bathroom. It makes it harder for the ladies to apply makeup when the lights are dim in the bathroom area.
Just like the Hotel Indigo in Denver, this one in Kansas City provided AVEDA toiletries, which are fantastic!
THE AMENITIES
There is a gorgeous bar and restaurant on the first floor, Jim Leedy Bar + Kitchen, that serves great food and craft cocktails. We ordered a glass of red wine and a margarita on the rocks at the bar. The red wine was fine, but the margarita could be improved.
There is also a fitness center equipped with two treadmills, two elliptical, one exercise bike, weight bench with free weights, and a resistant training machine.
Other amenities include WiFi, a business center, copying services, fax services, and more. If you need to store your valuable belongings somewhere, the front desk has a security box available.
We also appreciated the mini art gallery they showcased next to the lobby that promoted local artists’ work. It’s nice to experience thoughtful spaces like this which ties in beautifully with the local area. There were some beautiful pieces in there and if we had some room in our car, we might have even purchased some of those art pieces by Ada Koch.
PET FRIENDLINESS
All Hotel Indigo hotels are pet friendly and this location has a $50 non-refundable fee per stay. Only one dog is allowed in each room.
The general manager was kind enough to leave Kuma some dog treats from a local shop, Three Dog Bakery, and of course, she was overjoyed.
There were some patches of grass a couple blocks from the hotel where Kuma could relieve herself, which the hotel staff notified us about at the time of check-in.
HOTEL COST
We stayed at this hotel in the beginning of September, 2020. The general cost for a standard room with two beds start at $100 and depends on the season you visit.
Valet parking is $24 and the pet fee is $50 per stay for one pet.
