Mithra Cave Hotel is a well-known hotel in Cappadocia, Turkey because it has one of the best views overlooking the city of Göreme. It’s especially known for the gorgeous Instagram photos of visitors watching the colorful hot air balloons flooding the sky from their terrace. We wanted to get the best views in town, so we knew we had to stay here.
FIRST IMPRESSION
Check-in time is 2:30 PM and we arrived around noon, so our room was not quite ready yet. They suggested that we relax upstairs on their rooftop terrace while they finished preparing our rooms. One of the kind staff members that took in our luggage directed us up to the terrace and we were in awe of the historic property and the awesome views surrounding us.
We had some Turkish tea and took some pictures around the terrace and after about 30 minutes, we were informed that our room was ready. The staff brought in our luggage and gave us a tour of our cave room.
THE ROOM
Each room has its own unique style and we chose to stay in one of the bigger rooms with a front terrace and a large shower and jacuzzi in the bathroom.
Our room was located very close to the lobby at Room #25 which was great because we didn’t have to walk up very many stairs. We were in a little nook and although there were some rooms around us, it was a very quiet area.
The room was very spacious with a queen bed and twin bed. I would say the comfort of the beds was average. It wasn’t the best mattress, but we did have a good night’s rest every night.
Next to the beds was a nightstand and vanity table with a Hygiene Kit that included a face mask, gloves, and hand sanitizer. I thought the gloves were an interesting choice to include in the kit. Personally, I would have rather had the individual sanitizing wipes, but it’s still nice to have a sanitizing kit included in the room.
In the corner of the room was a TV and drinking station with complimentary tea, coffee, and water in the fridge. Most hotels in Turkey provide instant coffee or tea with an electric kettle. I wasn’t sure if I would like the instant coffee by Nescafe, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was actually pretty good and I even took some extra with me when I left the hotel.
If you would like something else to drink, there are sodas, juice, and snacks inside the fridge for an extra fee.
Next to the drinking station is a small digital safe where you can store things like your passport, cash, and other valuables. I don’t think a regular size laptop will fit in this safe, but an iPad definitely would.
There is also a couch and closet in the room with hangers, extra blankets, and a laundry service bag.
The bathroom was gorgeous with a large jacuzzi and shower stall. We didn’t use the jacuzzi, but the shower was excellent.
There are plenty of toiletries by the sink including shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hand soap, Q-tips, and a sewing kit.
AMENITIES
As I mentioned earlier, Mithra Cave Hotel is known for its beautiful rooftop terrace and views. The main terrace area includes several seating areas, a bar, restaurant, and a beautifully decorated section with colorful pillows and even food displayed for that perfect Instagram photo.
Usually, there are hot air balloons flooding the sky every morning at sunrise, but unfortunately, due to windy weather conditions, the balloons were canceled the entire time we were in Cappadocia. Just pure bad luck for us, but I still enjoyed the stay and the unique views.
Breakfast is included in your stay and it’s served every day from 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM. They serve the usual Turkish breakfast with lots of food that you can never finish. You’ll also have a cute furry guest walking around greeting your table.
They also serve lunch and dinner and we had an excellent meal on the rooftop. We ordered pasta and grilled chicken and both dishes were outstanding. It was probably the best grilled chicken I’ve ever had. There was so much flavor and the chicken was juicy and not dry at all, which is very hard to do with grilled chicken. I was very impressed and savored every last bite.
WiFi is complimentary as well and it worked pretty good for me, but my friend seemed to have issues and it was very slow for her.
Parking is available, but very limited. Most likely, the staff will come out and park the car for you and take the keys so that they can move around the cars when they needed for other guests.
There’s plenty of lounge areas around the hotel and even a cool cave lounge. Every corner you turn, there’s an area you can relax in.
If you would like to book a tour, the hotel will be more than happy to do this for you. They recommend booking hot air balloon rides in advance as it is very popular, but make sure you check on the cancellation policy.
They also offer other tours such as daily group tours, ATV tours, horse riding, jeep safari, and a Turkish night show.
LOCATION
Mithra Cave Hotel is located in the center of Göreme and there are plenty of restaurants and shops you can walk to around the area.
We had the best food around here and highly recommend Turkish Ravioli Restaurant and Seten Restaurant. Seten is located right next door at Sultan Cave Suites and it’s a very popular restaurant. We almost couldn’t get a table, but the manager was kind enough to squeeze us in. Make sure you get the soufflé for dessert because it is to die for!
If you’re like me and happen to need a camera card reader or charger, there’s an electronics shop right down the street. It’s reasonably priced and the owners are very helpful and friendly. Make sure you have cash with you because some of these small shops do not accept credit cards.
If you need some extra snacks, there are convenience stores nearby as well.
HOW TO GET HERE
From Kayseri airport, it will be about an hour's drive to the hotel. We rented a car at the airport and it was an easy drive to Cappadocia.
If you are coming from Nevşehir airport, it will be about a 20-minute drive.
If you’re not comfortable driving, there are shuttle transfers for 80 TL per person from Nevşehir and Kayseri airport.
The hotel also offers private transfers starting at 70€ for 2 to 5 people and up to 120€ for 6 to 10 people.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Mithra Cave Hotel is an excellent hotel to stay at in Göreme as it’s at the center of everything. What I enjoyed most was the dinner I had on the rooftop. I can’t express enough how delicious our meals were and enjoying that awesome view of the unique Cappadocia rocks made it even more special.
It would have been even better if we could have taken pictures with the hot air balloons, but it just wasn’t in our cards. That just means we’ll have to come back!
