Hotel Indigo Paris Opera is a Trendy Boutique in the Heart of Paris

On our trip to Paris (this was our first time visiting Paris), we wanted to stay in a hotel that was centrally located but also embraced both comfort and charm. We also needed a room that could accommodate three people, which is surprisingly hard to find in Paris. After looking at several reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to book a room at Hotel Indio Paris-Opera, which is an IHG hotel.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Finding the location was a bit tricky as it’s nestled between tall buildings and the hotel’s entrance was in an area that wasn’t accessible via automobile. Our Uber driver went up and down the streets a couple of times and finally dropped us off where he guessed the hotel was.

Our hotel was located in this beautiful pathway

Luckily, he was right and we weren’t too far away from the hotel entrance. We both had two suitcases with us, so we ran from the car down the cobblestone pathway as it was raining when we arrived. Thankfully, this was the only time it rained on us in Paris.

As soon as we entered the lobby, we were kindly greeted and check-in was fairly fast. They asked for our passports and the room was ready despite us being there about a half-hour before check-in time.

LOCATION

The central location was one of the reasons we selected this hotel as it’s surrounded by beautiful historic architecture and within walking distance to many popular attractions as well as the metro. The Palais Garnier is a pleasant 5-minute walk and the Louvre Museum is only 10-minutes away via metro.

There is an array of cafes, dessert shops, convenient stores, fast food, restaurants, and shopping boutiques all within a short walking distance. You can also walk to the historic mall, Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, which is one of the most beautiful malls we have seen to date.

THE ROOM

We booked the Queen Duplex Suite with Sofa Bed which was 592 square feet. It was perfect for the three of us as it was a loft-style room. The room also came with breakfast for two guests.

We were very pleased with the space and layout of the room. There are two floors to the room with the sofa bed being on the bottom floor and the Queen bed on the top floor. We shared the Queen bed and our friend slept on the sofa bed.

Downstairs Room

We were pleasantly surprised that the room had a half bathroom downstairs and a full bathroom upstairs. This made it super convenient for our friend so that she didn’t have to run upstairs to use the bathroom if needed. It’s small but better than having no bathroom at all.

The bottom floor was equipped with a TV, a Nespresso machine, a digital safe, a refrigerator, an iron and ironing board, and a portable heater (if you needed more heat on top of central heating).

There was also a separate workspace with a desk and chair, which came in handy for our friend who had to hop on a Zoom call for work one afternoon. There was also plenty of natural light; however, the half bathroom was quite dark.

Upstairs Room

It was a bit of a challenge carrying our luggage up the narrow stairs, but we eventually made it up without any bruises or smashed fingers. The room was bright during the day, but at night it was quite dark as there was limited lighting.

The queen bed was superb and we both slept comfortably with zero backaches. On each side of the bed was a nightstand with outlets, so we were both able to charge our devices when going to bed.

We also had a TV and a large console table along the wall, so we utilized this space to place our luggage. We also had a closet where we were able to hang several of our dresses and cubby holes where we stored other miscellaneous items.

Similar to downstairs, we also had a portable heater. We were also provided two bathrobes and two slippers. We love it when hotels provide slippers as we don’t like walking around in our shoes indoors.

Bathroom

The bathroom upstairs was super spacious with a large sink and average counter space. There was also a speaker in the bathroom, so if you were watching TV in the room, you could still hear it clearly while you showered.

The large lighted mirror was fantastic as this makes it easier to apply our makeup in the mornings. The bathroom was also equipped with a blow dryer and magnifying mirror. The large walk-in shower had a rainfall showerhead and a handheld shower head.

Plenty of toiletries were provided daily from a family-run business called Fragonard. We visited their free Paris Perfume Museum which was just steps from our hotel. It was a unique tour and we learned some interesting things about how to apply perfume and how the scent is extracted and created.

Bath towels and toiletries were replenished every day (we stayed for 4 days) and there was daily housekeeping which was nice since many hotels stopped doing this during the pandemic. Having a heated towel rack was also a nice touch.

Hotel room telephone and welcome card

We did have issues, in the beginning, getting Nespresso pods for our coffee machine and the sink upstairs being clogged. However, once we addressed the front desk, they were able to solve both issues in a timely matter.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi was offered for free and it worked great downstairs, but the signal was a little weak upstairs. I tried FaceTime upstairs and it wouldn’t connect, but checking emails and viewing videos on Instagram was no problem.

AMENITIES

Fitness Center

There is an on-site fitness center if you need to maintain your training routine, but make sure to reserve the room as the hotel will have to provide you with a separate key.

It’s a pretty small space but it included two treadmills, two indoor bikes, a multistation unit, an elliptical bike, and a weight bench. There was also a bathroom and towels.

Breakfast

Our room came with free breakfast for two. The menu had a variety of a la carte options and we also had an array of items to choose from at the buffet table. Everything was presented so beautifully and we really enjoyed the petit portions from the a la carte menu. We like to try a little bit of everything, so this was perfect.

We ordered eggs, avocado toast, and pancakes from the a la carte menu, and from the buffet table, we grabbed yogurt, pastries, fresh juices, and more. Crystal loved the fresh-squeezed orange juice and I enjoyed the bite-size avocado toast.

Sometimes when breakfast is free, it’s not always the best quality but that wasn’t the case here. Our favorite was the daily fresh baked buttery croissants.

FINAL THOUGHTS

We had a really great stay here and loved how so many attractions were conveniently located within walking distance. Housekeeping kept our room fresh everyday, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was fantastic, and the entire staff was friendly and attentive.

It’s not easy to find budget-friendly hotels in the center of Paris, but if you split this room among three people, it’s at a reasonable price.
