It’s been a while since we dined at a 100% vegan establishment, so we were delighted to be invited to try Flower Burger’s casual vegan culinary experience. These colorful burgers are 100% plant-based and made with only natural ingredients.
Originally from Milan, this rainbow vegan burger recently made its way to West Hollywood, California in October 2021. It’s unburger-lievable that a vegan burger joint wasn’t already in Los Angeles with all the health-conscious folks in this region, but it’s finally here.
One thing you’ll love about Flower Burger is the colorful decor from ceiling to floor. The entire shop was hand-painted by muralist @kylekyote, so it also makes for a great location to shoot eye-catching photos.
Fun tidbit: The flower is a symbol of positivity, joy, and love. We definitely felt all of that as soon as we walked in. Okay, let’s talk about the burgers now.
Classic Chickpea Burger
This classic burger should be called simply delicious. This one is for the chickpea fans who like things simple. The yellow whole wheat bun gets its shade from turmeric and holds the chickpea patty, Flower mayo, juicy tomatoes, and gentilina lettuce.
We had to ask what the Flower mayo was made from as it was hard to believe it was made only with vegan ingredients. Flower Burger’s mayo is made with 100% Italian organic soy milk, apple vinegar, brown sugar, dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt, and sunflower seed oil.
The chickpea patty is high in fiber and is made with a spice blend with a hint of smoked paprika to give it a slightly smoky flavor.
Flower Burger
This was our favorite burger of the three we tried and was recommended by Danika who is the manager there. It’s their iconic burger and it will have a very familiar taste to those who like Magik sauce.
The red kidney bean patty is high in protein and consists of red kidney beans, spinach, and red onions. A key ingredient that gives this patty a stretchy meat-like texture is the seitan.
Crystal was pleasantly surprised at how much this burger tasted like a Big Mac. The Magik sauce definitely contributes to this similarity. Candy really enjoyed the crunchy soybean spouts, since that is one of her favorite vegetables.
The Flower bun gets its vibrant violet color from purple carrot extract and of course, the Flower cheddar is made without lactose and dairy products. It’s amazing how much the plant-based slice of cheddar tasted like cheddar cheese.
Cherry Bomb
Cherry Bomb is Flower Burger’s sexy burger because it wins the award for the most Instagrammed and craved burger from their menu. The lentil and basmati rice patty is topped with Rocktail sauce, tomato confit, Flower cheddar, and soybean sprouts.
The pink bun gets its vivid color from concentrated beetroot juice and cherry extract. The Rocktail sauce consists of some of the most popular sauces in the world: ketchup, mustard, and Flower mayo. But what makes this sauce extra bomb are the subtle flavors from nori (dried ) seaweed and brandy.
Edamame
We’re so used to only seeing edamame offered at Japanese restaurants, so it was a pleasant surprise to see it on their menu as a side dish. This Asian delight is low in calories and packed with proteins and vitamins.
Potato Wedges
The potato wedges were an irresistible addiction. They were crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside, which basically is the perfect potato wedge. It’s also slightly seasoned with paprika and you get to choose from seven different sauces. If you’re a simple ketchup kind of person, they have that too.
Chocolate Salami
We definitely couldn’t leave without trying a vegan sweet treat. We’ve never heard of chocolate salami and learned that it’s a pretty common Italian and Portuguese dessert. Flower Burger’s chocolate salami is made from dark chocolate, bittersweet cocoa, soy milk, whole wheat biscuits, and oat flakes.
Final Thoughts
We’re always looking to try something different and this was definitely something new to us. Since we aren’t vegan ourselves, we had no idea how creamy and delicious a vegan mayonnaise could be.
We adored the decor both outdoors and indoors and when we asked to take our leftovers home, the cute packaging was such a delight.
We wish we would have known that they are a pet-friendly establishment. We love to bring our pups with us everywhere, so we’ll have to bring them along with us the next time we pop by.
Parking
As with many popular cities, parking can be tricky. Since we arrived shortly after opening, we found metered street parking across the street. If you aren’t able to find street parking, the West Hollywood Public Parking Garage is about a 6-minute walk from Flower Burger with the first hour being free.
