Los Angeles is a super pet-friendly city and many hotels, especially those in tourist areas, cater to travelers who want to bring their fur babies along. When we discovered The Langham Pasadena, not only were we thrilled to hear that they were pet friendly, but we were also looking forward to experiencing a stay at a luxury hotel that was designated as a Historic Landmark for its architectural and historical significance.

FIRST IMPRESSION

When we approached the hotel entrance, we were greeted by the friendly valet attendants who made us feel valued from the moment we arrived. We were directed to the lobby and an attentive staff member quickly located our reservation. Although we arrived prior to check-in time, our room was ready for us. The entire check-in process was smooth and efficient.

THE ROOM

Assistance with Luggage & Room Tour

A bellman offered to take our luggage to our room, which was much appreciated since we had my two pups, Captain and Zooey, with us. He gave us a little room tour and explained the various amenities to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay.

Deluxe Premier King Accommodation

He also offered to set up both our luggage on the luggage rack, which was a huge help because that is the only thing I don’t look forward to when I get to my hotel room.

Welcome Amenities

Shortly after he left, a hotel staff brought us a welcome gift of four glass bottles of sparkling water and a beautiful plate of Langham’s signature pink macarons. These lovely gestures definitely made us feel special and appreciated.

Bedroom

We were in room 568 and it was beautifully appointed with high-quality linens, plush bedding, and elegant furnishings. The attention to detail was evident, from the tasteful artwork to the lounge chair. Our Deluxe Premier King Accommodation had three large windows that gave us a fantastic view of the Horseshoe Garden.

Entryway Console table

The entryway had a console table with bottles of water and a coat closet to the right. This is where we found slippers, bathrobes, an iron, an ironing board, and a blow dryer.

The room we stayed in was not only spacious, but it also boasted a supremely comfortable King bed that invited us to sink into its plushness. On each side of the bed was a nightstand with drawers and a lamp.

One nightstand had a Bose speaker and the other had a handy mini charging station, complete with USB outlets. While we were grateful for the extra outlets, it would have been even better if they were available on both sides of the bed, ensuring equal convenience for both guests.

Outlet and Telephone

In front of the bed was a beautiful wooden desk accompanied by a chair with intricate carvings. Placed on top of the desk was a lamp equipped with multiple outlets to conveniently charge all your electronic devices. There was also a telephone and notepad.

There was one item on the desk that we both immediately wanted…the hotel’s signature pen. Yes, we couldn’t get over how beautiful the pink floral hotel pen was. It sounds silly, but we’ve never wanted a hotel pen until we saw this one.

On the opposite side of the room, there was a medium-sized flat-screen TV sitting on top of the dresser. Inside the dresser was a mini bar with a Nespresso machine with coffee and tea pods. There was also a hidden refrigerator inside the dresser as well. We used the refrigerator to chill our drinks and leftover food.

There were two large pink dog beds next to the dresser with two adorable dog bandanas. Right next to the beds were two dog bowls, which we filled with water and placed in the bathroom.

Although the pups had their own bed, Captain’s favorite place to chill in the room was on the blue lounge chair with an ottoman. More often than not, I was surprised that he chose to relax on this chair instead of on his bed or in bed with me.

Bathroom

The spacious Italian marble bathroom was luxurious with a separate shower and tub. The bathroom amenities were from different brands, which was interesting since I’m used to hotels exclusively using one brand.

The hotel’s Chuan Spa provided amenities that included a nail filing kit and comb. The shampoo, conditioner, and lotion were from C.O. Bigelow and the soap was from Diptyque Paris.

I was happy to see this classy brand because it’s one of my favorites. I wish all of the bathroom amenities were from Diptyque Paris, but since they are known for their perfumes and candles, it makes sense that other brands were used instead. The public bathrooms throughout the hotel all had Diptyque Paris hand soap and lotion.

We had plenty of towels and toilet paper. The toilet had its own enclosed space and this is where we found the towels. The toilet sometimes sounded like it wasn’t flushing properly, which concerned us, but luckily it never had any issues.

FEATURED AMENITIES ON-SITE

One of the reasons we chose to stay at this hotel was the array of pet-friendly activities that were available on-site.

Scenic Strolls

The grounds are massive, so walking Zooey and Captain around the paved grounds was like a mini trail walk. This was perfect for our morning and evening strolls.

Morning walk with a cup of coffee

In the mornings, we grabbed a complimentary cup of coffee and tea from the lobby and then made our way outside. Typically, hotels have one dedicated pet relief area, so having multiple pet stations throughout our walk was such a lovely way to enjoy the beautiful grounds.

Japanese Garden

One of the outings we enjoyed with the pups was the Japanese Garden. It was tucked away in a quiet corner of the hotel which made it the perfect spot to enjoy the waterfall pond and mini footbridge.

The garden exudes a peaceful, mystical beauty and at the top of the garden, there is a swinging bench if you want to sit down and enjoy lunch or a snack.

Horseshoe Garden

This area was originally the hotel’s main entrance but is now a spectacular enclave dotted with palm trees and lush greenery. If you visit during the Spring, you can enjoy the colorful pink blooms that make this garden so magical.

This lovely outdoor space had an array of outdoor games for guests to enjoy. There was a miniature golf course, a jumbo connect four, and chess board, cornhole, and badminton. We had a great time playing cornhole and especially enjoyed many rounds of badminton.

Picture Bridge

The iconic picture bridge has been a historic landmark on the grounds for nearly 90 years. The paintings on the bridge were done by artist, Frank M Moore. The paintings depict 20 California landscapes and treasures such as Yosemite and Catalina Island’s Avalon Bay

ON-SITE DINING

Zooey and Captain went everywhere with us on the property so that also meant dining with us. There are several on-site dining options and two of them are pet-friendly.

The Terrace

We enjoyed breakfast at the Terrace and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The terrace was a gorgeous space and our table had a view of the pool and Picture Bridge. Our waiter was attentive and our entrees came out pretty fast.

Three Egg Omelet

Crystal ordered the Three Egg Omelet and Candy had the Two Eggs “Your Way”. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the side of hashbrowns was crispy, light, and fluffy.

The Tap Room

The Tap Room is a historic bar that opened just after the end of Prohibition. Although it was a bar, they had a menu with a variety of upscale light bites. We really enjoyed the patio space which had several long cushioned lounge chairs.

When we sat down, we were served a little bowl of bar nuts which were super yummy. We both ordered a Margarita and the Strawberry Cream Puff. We are huge fans of Cream Puffs and their Strawberry Cream Puff was superb.

Strawberry Cream Puff

The choux had a light texture with a golden, crisp exterior and both the whipped cream and cream filling were an absolute delight. We enjoyed it so much that we went back and ordered it again the following evening.

DOGGIE PROGRAM

Langham refers to their $135 pet fee as the Doggie Program. This includes a plush pink bed pillow, pink porcelain pet bowls, a Doggie Newsletter, and dog treats.

Zooey loving her plush pink bed

Our room had two plush pink beds and two pink dog bandanas, but we didn’t receive the other items. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it would have been nice to see what the Doggie Newsletter entailed. I did ask about the dog treats and unfortunately, the treats were out of stock.

NOTEWORTHY AMENITIES

House Car

There is a complimentary car service that travels within a 3-mile radius of the hotel which is based on a first-come-first-served basis. This is a great service if you don’t have a car since there are plenty of activities nearby within the 3-mile radius. If you do have a car, like we did, the fee for overnight valet parking was $50.

Gorgeous COurtyard

Wellness

If you’re a jogger, it’s a fantastic area to run and Jogging Maps are available at the front desk. They also provide a comprehensive range of wellness activities and a newly enhanced Fitness Center. Additional offerings include personal training, scheduled fitness classes, Reformer Pilates, Tai Chi, and interval training.

Swimming Pool & The Hideaway Pool Bar

Pets are now allowed in the pool area, but we did get a chance to check it out while Zooey and Captain were at the pet sitter (AKA my husband). The pool bar served up amazing Margaritas and the food menu was surprisingly fresh.

Crispy Chicken Tenders

Typically food at pool bars is pretty average, but not at the Hideaway. Our Caesar salad was super fresh and crispy with just the right amount of dressing.

I can’t remember the last time I had such a delectable salad. We also ordered the Crispy Chicken Tenders and they were indeed crispy with a delightfully light breading served with a side of light golden brown fries.

LOCATION

Candy has been living in Los Angeles for about ten years now and only recently discovered The Langham Pasadena. It’s located in a beautiful historic area known for its lush gardens, upscale neighborhoods, and proximity to cultural attractions such as the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens.

FINAL THOUGHTS

We had an amazing time with the pups and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. It was the perfect blend of classic and contemporary hospitality. The service was impeccable and personalized, and the commitment to ensuring our stay was not just comfortable but exceptional.

Captain’s favorite spot in the room

On one occasion, we walked passed the bellman and he remembered Zooey’s name which was such a personalized gesture. The four of us were pampered and indulged in a world of luxury and sophistication.
