If you’ve been keeping up with our blog posts lately, you’ll start to notice that we have a thing for IHG hotels like Kimpton Fitzroy and InterContinental Kyiv. We always have a fabulous stay at their hotels and knew that InterContinental Prague would be just as wonderful while visiting Prague.
GETTING HERE
From Václav Havel Airport Prague, I called an Uber and walked to the location the app directed me to meet my Uber driver (it was very easy to find). It was a 20-minute ride and cost 373.20 CZK which is about $17 USD. My uber driver was extremely nice and professional but did not speak much English. Thankfully I learned some Czech phrases so I was able to at least say “thank you” which is “děkuji”.
FIRST IMPRESSION
I arrived at the hotel on Saturday close to 8pm and the lobby was nice and quiet. There was no line at check-in which was a relief because I had to wait in line for an hour at the airport to claim my lost luggage. Needless to say, I was not in the best of moods when I arrived in Prague but the staff at InterContinental Prague assured me that they would be on alert for my missing luggage and notify me as soon as they heard anything. They were really kind and I was already starting to feel better about the situation.
THE ROOM
I stayed at this hotel twice during my trip in Europe so I have two different experiences. The first room I stayed in was one of the Classic Rooms on the 4th floor in Room 476 with two double beds. The room was spacious with two accent chairs, a coffee table, night table, desk, large dresser and closet with plenty of storage space. It came equipped with a TV, safe, coffee, tea, mini fridge, umbrella, iron, and ironing board.
The bathroom was also spacious with a toilet, bidet, bathtub with shower, and a large sink area. There was also a magnifying mirror, hair dryer, large towels, and some toiletries. They provide shampoo, shower gel and lotion but no conditioner so if you’re the type that needs conditioner like me, make sure to bring your own. There was also a box that came with extras like a shower cap, hair band, nail file, Q-tips, cotton pads, and a sewing kit. If you want to hear the TV while you’re in the bathroom, you’re in luck because they have speakers with volume control and the sound quality was great.
On my second visit, I stayed in another Classic Room but this time I was on the 7th floor in Room 704 with a great view of the bridge over Vltava River. I had a view of the river in Room 476 as well but it was a little obstructed by the trees. The size of the room was smaller but not by much. I liked the layout of this room and it had more outlets. I only had the option of using a couple of outlets in the last room but I always bring my 2-in-1 Power Plug Adapter with me so it wasn’t a problem. The bathroom was also more compact without the bidet and speakers, but the sink area and the bathtub were both about the same size as the double bed room.
I slept like a baby in both rooms. The room was very quiet and got completely dark once I closed the drapes and that put me right to sleep. I woke up every morning feeling refreshed. I rarely get sleep like this when I’m at home because my dog wakes me up at 4:30 every morning. It was nice to finally be able to sleep in.
LOCATION
InterContinental Prague is located in a prime location right next to the Jewish Quarter and minutes from historic Old Town. It’s also only a 10-minute walk to the famous Charles Bridge. There are numerous restaurants in and near Old Town which is only a 6-minute walk. To get to the Prague Castle, it will be a 20-minute walk or you can take the tram up to the castle as well. There is also plenty of shopping right in front of the hotel if that’s your thing too.
DINING & LOUNGES
There are several restaurants you can enjoy at InterContinental Prague. First, there’s Primator Restaurant where you can have a delicious breakfast buffet served from 6:30am - 10:30am. Their breakfast buffet is in a beautiful setting with large windows looking out to their garden and Vlatva River. There is a huge assortment of hot and cold dishes to choose from including pastries, cereals, fruits, Asian dishes and more. They also have an omelette station where the chef will cook your custom fresh omelette.
Next, there is Duke’s Bar & Cafe. There is a casual sitting area to one side and an oval bar to the other side. They offer a wide selection of light and heavy dishes, as well as an afternoon tea experience. I had dinner here one evening and ordered the Tomato Soup and Chicken Caesar Salad which were both excellent. The salad took awhile but the flavorful grilled chicken that came with the salad made up for it. It was AMAZING and probably the best grilled chicken I’ve ever had. I’m guessing they had to make it from scratch so that’s why it took longer than normal. They are open from 9am - 12am so if you need a late night treat, this is an excellent place to get your fix.
Finally, there’s Zlata Praha Restaurant on the top floor with panoramic views of Prague from the expansive windows and summer terrace. This is a perfect place to catch the sunset on the rooftop or have a candlelit dinner with your partner. The fine dining restaurant is led by executive chef, Roman Dolejs, and offers Czech & International cuisines. They are only open for dinner from 6pm - 11pm.
AMENITIES & SERVICE
This hotel has a ton of amenities. I wanted to take advantage of them all but wasn’t able to due to lack of time. One of them being their world-class fitness and spa center that includes state-of-the-art equipment with a large indoor gym and garden area with Mondo track. Plus, it has a unique indoor pool area including a jacuzzi, saunas with plunge pools, and a sunbathing area in the gardens.
I did take advantage of their turndown service, the pillow menu, complimentary bottles of water and the Handy phone. The Handy phone is a traveler phone that comes with free local and international calls along with unlimited data using Google Maps and other popular applications. This phone was the coolest thing and it really came in “handy” when I had to make a bunch of international and local calls inquiring about my lost luggage or using Google Maps when I was not able to get service on my phone. I hope more hotels will incorporate this idea.
Another great service I took advantage of was purchasing my transportation pass with the concierge. Rather than wasting my time trying to figure out where I should buy the tickets, I was conveniently able to buy them right inside the hotel. I purchased the 24-hour pass which cost 110 CZK (~$5 USD). I probably would have purchased this earlier on my trip if I knew how easy it was to get one.
FINAL THOUGHTS
InterContinental Prague has so much to offer and I truly enjoyed every aspect of it. The Handy phone alone is worth the stay at this hotel but there’s so many other features, activities, and dining you can enjoy all in one place.
