We are all about cute, themed cafes so when we were in Odaiba, Japan we had to visit the Hello Kitty cafe, Cafe de Miki. The cafe was conveniently located within walking distance from our hotel at the Diver City Tokyo Plaza.
The theme of the cafe was London as Hello Kitty was born in London. We had no idea that Kitty White (this is her real name) was British! Apparently, at the time when Hello Kitty was created, Britain was a popular destination among Japanese women.
The cuteness of the British themed Hello Kitty cafe did not disappoint. We were tired from walking all day, so it was a nice treat to sit down and munch on some yummy desserts and tea.
The decor in the cafe definitely gave us a vibe that we were in Kitty's London. Everywhere we looked, there was so much attention to detail. As soon as we sat down, the server handed us these cute Hello Kitty moist towels and we immediately squealed, 'Kawaii!!' (meaning "cute" in Japanese). The server chuckled when she saw how excited we were.
There was a large family style table at the center of the restaurant and it was beautifully decorated with flowers and candles. If you look closely, the chairs have Hello Kitty's siganature bow on them. Each table even got their own little Hello Kitty stuffed animal to sit next to, but this was part of the decor and not a gift to take home.
Their website indicated a special Christmas themed menu for the holidays, but the menu we received in-store did not appear to be seasonal. Not a huge disappointment since there were still plenty of cute options.
We ordered the green tea latte parfait set and a vanilla latte. Service was quick and friendly and the food presentation was super kawaii. The vanilla latte was yummy and the green tea latte was a tad too sweet for us, but the green tea flavor was delicious. We've had tastier parfaits, so next time we might go for the hot apple pie or scones instead.
After our dessert and lattes we took full advantage of the cute little photo booth corner. Being adults, sometimes we feel a little silly, but it's so hard to resist all the cuteness!
After we took some pictures we took a look at some of the fun Hello Kitty souvenirs they had at their little shop next to the register. Everything was adorable and their best selling item was the Hello Kitty Apple Tea.
Overall, our experience was delightful and it was a pleasant cafe to unwind and relax from the walking we did all day. Have you been to Cafe de Miki or some of the other Hello Kitty cafes around the world?
