I love wine and although I am not a wine expert, I know what my taste buds like and dislike. I haven't always lived in an area that was abundant with vineyards and wineries, so I'm currently taking full advantage of it while it lasts.

Napa Valley is a huge tourist destination in California, but I prefer the lesser known areas or the up-and-coming regions that are aiming to be a part of the AVA (American Viticultural Area).

Last year, I visited Ramona Valley, CA and had an amazing time, so I was thrilled to visit another family owned winery, Beach House Winery. One of the main reasons I love visiting boutique wineries is the laid back vibe, friendly service, and the intimate experience.

Just like the wineries I visited in Ramona Valley, Beach House Winery was a family run business and it is run from the ground up. They are the farmers of their vineyard and they are the hosts at your tasting. Everything is done 100% by the family, so they know everything there is to know about wine.

Tastings are by appointment only on weekdays, so make sure you do this before heading their way. Their tasting menu is very reasonably priced. At $15, you get to pick six tastings of any white or red wine. I prefer red wine, so most of my selections were red. If you would like to take the wine glass home, the tasting plus glass is $20.

As I was tasting the various wines, I listened to Kim and George as they were telling me the story behind Beach House Winery. It's so fascinating to hear the story behind one's business and passion. My favorite tasting was the 2012 Petite Sirah. The 2011 version of this bottle was entered in a wine fair competition and one of the judges loved it so much that he bought their entire stock. Kim said she personally likes the 2012 bottle (the one I was tasting), but of course, loved the 2011 bottle as well.

One of the best parts about Beach House Winery are their views. They created a beautiful outdoor space on the rooftop, so if you enjoy the outdoors, simply buy a bottle of wine and head directly upstairs.

The view upstairs is gorgeous and you can't beat the weather in Southern California. I highly recommend visiting a boutique winery. Kim and George were such a delight and very welcoming. Thank you for the lovely wine tour!

The great thing about this winery is the location. Beach House Winery is a very short distance away (about 13 miles) from Oceanside Beach. You can easily take an uber if you don't have a designated driver.

Have you ever been to a boutique winery? If so, what was your experience like?
