If you’re looking for a budget hotel in Barcelona with high ratings, Ayre Hotel Caspe is the perfect accommodation for you. I was doing a solo trip in Spain and Portugal for about 9 days and wanted to save some money in certain areas. I know you can save tons of money on hostels but I personally like to have my own space, so Ayre Hotel Caspe was the best option.

FIRST IMPRESSION

Ayre Hotel Caspe was a basic hotel but everything was kept very clean and modern. The entrance was very nice and the staff spoke perfect English with recommendations on where I could eat around the hotel. The check-in process went very smoothly and I was upgraded to a room with a tea kettle, which was nice, but I never used it. If you’re a tea lover, I’m sure you would have loved this little upgrade.

THE ROOM

I stayed in room 614 and it was very spacious with plenty of closet space, drawers, working desk, tea kettle with teas, accent chair, little couch, HDTV, digital safe (I was able to fit my 15” laptop in here), extra blanket, iron and ironing board, sewing kit, shoe shiner and plenty of outlets.

Mini fridge with bottle opener and chilled glass inside

The bathroom had a stand-up shower with a rain shower head and a bathtub right next to it. They also provided some basic toiletries along with a toothbrush, toothpaste, magnifying mirror, hair dryer, comb and shower cap. They didn’t provide conditioner, so if you use conditioner on a regular basis like me, make sure you bring your own.

Plenty of closet space with safe and ironing board

The TV came with lots of channels to choose from and I enjoyed watching the news in the mornings while I was getting ready. They also provide laundry service but it’s a bit on the high-end like most hotels (6.50 Euros for a T-shirt or 10.50 Euros for a sweater).

I booked a room with 2 twin beds and when they’re combined, it becomes a queen size bed or maybe even close to a king size bed. They provided plenty of pillows and I got great sleep on both nights.

THE AMENITIES

Ayre Hotel Caspe provides free wifi throughout the hotel that worked very well on all of my devices. They also have a fitness center, business center, and a cafeteria with a side terrace. I noticed that you could also rent bikes for 15 Euros.

LOCATION

A lot of people that stayed here loved the location of this hotel but I actually liked the location of the Airbnb I stayed at near Plaça de Catalunya better. Plaça de Catalunya is the true center of Barcelona and close to just about everything. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to from Plaça de Catalunya (where the Aerobus dropped me off) to Ayre Hotel Caspe, so it was a pretty lengthy walk with a suitcase.

Luckily, everything is very flat in Barcelona, so the walk wasn’t too bad but it did get tiring with all my luggage towards the end. I recommend catching a taxi from Plaça de Catalunya to the hotel, which is about 6 Euros.

With that being said, it wasn’t in a terrible location either. You’re in a fairly quiet area and you still have restaurants around and a 24-hour convenient store right across the street. The metro station is also nearby, so I utilized that a lot.

I purchased the 2-Day Hola Barcelona Travel Card online which gave me unlimited use of Barcelona's transportation system including the metro and buses for 2 consecutive days or 48 hours for 13.50 Euros (normally 15 Euros but I got a 10% discount for purchasing online). You can also get the 3-Day, 4-Day or 5-Day pass as well.

Very efficient metro system in Barcelona

THE VERDICT

If you’re trying to save money or want to stay away from the noise and be in a quieter area, this place is for you. I liked staying here and I thought everything was great but I do wish it was a bit closer to Plaça de Catalunya. I’m they type that likes to be around the center of action.

With that being said, this location forced me to take the metro and I’m so glad I tried it because Barcelona’s transportation system is so efficient and easy to use! I felt like a local hopping on and off the metro.
